It is inevitable that you will face challenges in your education, internships, and career. The key question is - how do you turn challenges into lessons? how do you use failure to propel you forward?
Real-life Scenario
An intern may receive negative feedback on their work.
What’s crucial is not the negative feedback, but how the intern responds constructively and improves.
To overcome this setback, the intern may reflect on and dissect on his process of working. What, in their workflow, could be the cause of the sub-optimal final result? How will they fix the current issues? What will they do differently next time?
It’s your turn:
Formulate a personal resilience plan - a list of do’s and don’t’s for you when facing an internship challenge. To do this, take some time to reflect on a time you failed: did you dwell on your mistakes or focus on what there was to learn? Reflect on how you typically react to failure and then assess what you did well and what you could improve on:
How did you react to the hardship at first?
How did your approach to the hardship evolve over time?
How did you overcome the hardship?
What did you learn from experiencing and overcoming the hardship?
After working through these questions, compile a do’s and dont’s list to prepare yourself to learn from and overcome future failures. When you have compiled a list, upload a PDF below.
