What do you do?

With disappointment? With high expectations? With passive thoughts?

How you think about your internship shapes what you get from it. If you go in assuming it’ll be boring, disorganized, or just busy-work, that mindset can become a self-fulfilling prophecy. But if you treat it as a chance to explore, learn, and grow—even in unexpected ways—you’ll create a more rewarding experience.

Through a guided exercise, you’ll turn passive or negative thoughts into positive, flexible ones—so you’re ready to make the most of whatever comes your way.

Write down 3–5 thoughts or assumptions you currently have about your upcoming internship.

Example: “I probably won’t do anything important.”

Take each assumption and rewrite it in a way that is positive, open, or growth-oriented. The goal isn’t to pretend everything will be perfect—but to stay flexible and engaged.

Example: “I probably won’t do anything important.” ——> “I may start with small tasks, but I can learn a lot and earn trust over time.”

Write one short mantra you can come back to when you feel discouraged or unmotivated.
